KorK 2013 End-of-Semester/ End-of-Year Update!

Hi KorKers!
 Missed me?

I know that it's been QUITE A WHILE since I've posted last, and I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart that I haven't kept up with Kool or Katastrophy. I could spew out a list of excuses from my side of the story, but that still doesn't give me a reason not to post.

But, if you want to know why there hasn't been a new post in a while, there are THREE reasons why.

1. FINAL EXAMS, PRESENTATIONS, PROJECTS, AND TERM PAPERS: THIS IS WHAT AN EDUCATION IS MADE OF...?

The wonder, the pride, and the soul of every college education that determines how long you, a college student can either: put off sleep or how little sleep will allow you to function, how much caffeinated beverages and junk foods you can consume, how to cram a semester's worth of information into an all-nighter or worse, one-hour study session before a final, and/or how long you can maintain your sanity throughout finals as well as those of the people (friends and roommates especially) in order to survive.

2. My Internships: From Athletics to the Environment

For one, I work with my college's Athletic Department [more specifically Sports Information.]

My experiences so far includes working videography and photography, social media, graphic design, video editing, statistics, commentary, and journalism. I've been working with this department for a year now, and with that, I usually help work all, if not almost all games (they vary from lacrosse, basketball, and even swim meets) to earn my hours/experience to gain credit towards my degree.

I really enjoy it, the great people, the high-paced energy and craziness that sometimes ensues...let's just say that it keeps me on my toes, and of course, makes it entertaining; especially if technology doesn't want to cooperate. (YAY FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCES!)

My other internship is involved with another department/organization at my college; the Center for the Environment, one of my favorite places on campus.

For them, I work alongside some amazing people as an intern as the head of the Center's various Social Media pages, help maintain their two official websites (checking for broken links, etc.), promote events and speakers, do photography, and so much more!

This past semester, I put together, organized, and ran a campus-wide photo contest for my college alongside a good friend of mine and fellow intern. Needless to say, it was incredibly successful, and the Executive Director of the Center was superbly pleased with what resulted, especially in terms of the Social Media pages. We're planning to host another contest this Spring for the community as well as for the college campus again. I'm rather excited to get started on it, especially after how well this first one went.

3. The Holiday Season: Turkeys, Christmas Presents, and
Wisdom Teeth Removal, Oh My! Wait...what?

So, my holidays were fantastic, yet slightly crazy. Alongside my duties and responsibilities involved with my classes and internships, I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed...and I, not realizing on what day I scheduled it for, realized that I planned to get them removed on the day before Thanksgiving. THE DAY BEFORE THE ONE DESIGNATED DAY THAT REQUIRES ONE TO BE FULL OF FEASTING,  MERRIMENT, AND REFLECTIONS.

That was real smart Katie, REAL SMART.  (*Facepalm*)
So, the day before Thanksgiving, I'm up and moving around 5am, and in surgery before 7am. I'm insanely grateful for the amazing doctor and nurses that helped, for the surgery went well, fantastic even, and I was able to leave about 30 minutes after waking up in the Recovery Room- no bleeding or loopiness from the medications AT ALL. I was only dealing with the numbness around my jaw. WOO!

My Dad, who was with me, jokingly said that I should call my mom before we left to go home, and I did, just because. She was surprised that she could clearly understand me. Haha! So after being prescribed some medications, I was sent home to recover and heal. Needless to say, I took a lot of naps during that stage...and am almost healed completely as of the end of December. (WOO!)

I was lucky that my family decided to celebrate Thanksgiving a little late so everyone could get together to celebrate (I have some family that live out-of-state). I was able to eat a big meal of comfort food, and had a great time meeting some new additions to the family, especially my new little cousin who was adopted from the Philippines. (She's such a sweetheart, and silly to boot!)

As for Christmas, my close family and I (my two sisters, my brother-in-law, and my parents) had a great one filled with love, great gifts, and target practice...we ended up going out into the pastures and shot some guns. (We're Southern, that's for sure.) But overall, it was a cold Christmas, but full of warmth from the amazing people I was able to spend it with. I'm very blessed and thankful.
My schedule (thankfully) isn't as hectic as it was, but I'm going to continue posting here on KorK as often as I can. If you, my amazing readers, don't hear from me very often, don't worry- I'm alive and kicking, but probably busy as a bee to get back to you all as I prepare to graduate and find a job out in the world. (Oh the joys of adulthood.)

I love you all so much, and I'll see you in the next post! Have a Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year! I'll see you in 2014! :)
